Tree-Tech provides a wide range of tree care, shrub care, and lawn care services for all types of residential and commercial properties. The program that is best for you is largely based on the results of our inventory of your property and the problems you may be facing. The final cost of your program will depend on a combination of our specific recommendations, the size of your property, and your needs and priorities. Below we have outlined information about our services. See our Programs & Service Options for a list of options and example pricing scenarios. Ask for a consultation today so that we can recommend the right program for your property.

Tree and Shrub Plant Health Care Services

The consultation process includes a complete inventory of your property's trees and shrubs, a synopsis of any noticeable stresses, and a summary of the treatments and services recommended in your program. During the growing season, a professional "Scout", trained in the diagnosis of horticultural diseases and deficiencies, visits your property for inspection approximately every 4-6 weeks, depending on your program. Trees and shrubs are spot-treated to minimize control agents. The following includes a review of our specialized treatments and outlines some of our other urban forestry and plant health care services.

Foliar Treatments

Our environmentally-sensitive foliar treatments are designed to effectively control insects and diseases. Insect problems may be divided into three categories according to the way they feed: chewing, sucking, or boring. Diseases can be grouped into two broad categories: diseases which are the result of infectious or living agents, and disorders caused by non-infectious or non-living things. Our monitoring visits allow us to pinpoint specific problems and then treat plants individually (a.k.a. spot-treating) to minimize control agents. This is part of what is known as Integrated Pest Management (IPM).

Deep Root Feeding

Deep root feeding helps to break up compacted soils allowing more oxygen and water to enter the root system. Deep root fertilizing promotes growth, reduces susceptibility to insect damage, bacteria, viruses, and other stresses, improves vigour, and can even help reverse declining health. Unlike many common fertilizer products, our formulations include essential micro-nutrients and minerals vital to a tree's physiological well-being.

Injectable Tree Care Products

Tree-Tech carries a full line of injectable tree care products. Significantly more environmentally-friendly than pesticidal sprays, injections are administered via self-contained capsules directly into a tree’s vascular system. Injection eliminates the detriments inherent in spray applications: spray drift, over-spraying, and the accidental treatment of non-target plant materials. Most urban trees, particularly high-value specimens and those growing in residential areas, are ideal candidates for micro-injection treatments. Though somewhat more expensive than traditional control methods, micro-injections of insecticide, fungicide, or nutrients generally produce outstanding results and, in some cases (such as wood-boring insects), are the only truly effective way of treating a fungal infection, insect infestation, or nutrient deficiency.

Introducing the BugBarrier™ Tree Band

The BugBarrier™ Tree Band is an effective non-chemical method of preventing damaging insects from climbing and crawling up the main stem(s) of your property's trees. The BugBarrier™ is very easy to install and remove. It consists of a dense, flexible, fibre barrier that wraps around the trunk of the tree, filling bark crevices and blocking the escape routes of insects. A thin film barrier is then placed over that fibre barrier and extends slightly below to prevent insects from taking an alternate route. The outside takes on an attractive, clean and resilient appearance, while the inside traps bugs dead with its sticky surface. BugBarrier™ Tree Bands have proven extremely successful against cankerworms, gypsy moth larvae, forest tent caterpillar larvae, ants, and most other climbing insects commonly found on urban trees. Tree-Tech readily utilizes the BugBarrier™ in caring for trees entrusted to our services and where the owners prefer alternative treatments to pesticides. If you are concerned about insect damage and the health of your trees, and want an environmentally-friendly remedy, contact Tree-Tech today to order your BugBarrier™ or to find out more.

Dripline Aeration

The compacted soils found in urban environments are typically poor in nutrients and less able to retain the vital air and water components required for healthy root development. Aerating the critical rooting zones of deciduous and coniferous trees is an effective technique for loosening compacted soils and stimulating deeper root growth by allowing more water, oxygen, and nutrients to reach the root zone.

Pine or Cedar Mulch

We recommend the addition of 5-7cm of pine or cedar mulch to the base of all landscape trees and shrubs. Mulching is a simple, highly beneficial, organic cultural practice that insulates root systems from the desiccating effects of extreme temperatures. Mulching also helps the soil retain moisture, retards or prevents the growth of weeds and other competing vegetation, and effectively reduces the soil compaction and root damage caused by excessive foot and vehicle traffic.

Dormant Oil Applications

Mineral oil is a natural, low-toxicity product that has been used for over 200 years to effectively control infestations of a variety of insect pests. In Canada, dormant oils are the preferred solution for controlling a number of overwintering insect species (mostly mites and scales) in an environmentally-friendly fashion. Applications generally need to be done in March-April (i.e. early spring) for maximum effectiveness.
*Given the critical timing issues concerning the application of dormant oils, we require your prompt confirmation for this service.

Zinc Applications

The majority of fungal pathogens tend to thrive in moist conditions. Zinc, when applied in chelated form to root zones, acts as a drying agent. Ecologically, it serves as a relatively benign control for disease spores that overwinter on or in the soil.

Other Services
